21 April 2021

  • leading healthcare management platform, Avant’s PracticeHub, has launched an app that offers direct integration with Ahpra.
  • Ahpra Alerts automates information collection from the 15 health and medical boards overseeing the registrations of health workers, including doctors, allied health professionals and nurses.

New PracticeHub app simplifies Ahpra registration, with regular alerts that reduce compliance risk for health workers and patients

Sometimes, it’s only when a healthcare practitioner tries to process their Medicare billings that they realise their registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) has lapsed. Through no fault of their own, the practitioner, or their practice, didn’t receive their re-registration documents before the 30 September renewal date. Such registration lapses may expose the practice or practitioner to potential compliance risks.

To make this process simpler, safer and more efficient, leading healthcare management platform, Avant’s PracticeHub, has launched an app that offers direct integration with Ahpra, allowing healthcare organisations to easily check a practitioner’s registration status. This saves time and increases safety for doctors, practices and patients.

The launch follows the recent release of PracticeHub’s Certificates of Insurance app, another innovative compliance addition to its platform.

The new Ahpra Alerts app synchronises with Ahpra’s database, ensuring users stay up to date with a practitioner’s registration status, including regular notifications of any changes to registration. The app provides more than 900 medical organisations across Australia already using PracticeHub, the ability to improve their regulatory compliance.

Ahpra Alerts automates information collection from the 15 health and medical boards overseeing the registrations of health workers, including doctors, allied health professionals and nurses. This reduces the administration burden for practice staff and lowers the risk that a healthcare worker has inadvertently forgotten to renew or update their registration

According to Avant’s Technology in Practice Chief Executive Officer, Martin Edwards, the app works in the background of the PracticeHub system and alerts the user to any changes through regular notifications and email.

“The new app streamlines what is currently a very manual and error-prone exercise. Our integration with Ahpra’s register means practitioners and organisations always receive the most up-to-date information about practitioner registrations” he said.

“Healthcare organisations have an obligation to ensure their practitioners are appropriately registered. By automating this process, our Ahpra Alerts app ensures organisations keep on top of their practitioners’ registration status throughout the year, not just annually at renewal, which has been the only practical solution for many organisations until now. Using the app within our PracticeHub system not only increases efficiency, it makes medical practice and its management safer for practitioners, practices and, importantly, patients.”
